S̶t̶a̶n̶d̶-̶u̶p̶ Startup Comedy Night

  • CodeBase Ltd 3 Lady Lawson Street Edinburgh, EH3 9DR (map)

As the world descends on Edinburgh for the Fringe, we wanted to bring a relaxed, lighthearted event over the summer. We'll be hearing from some of Edinburgh's funniest startup characters for a night of laughs, stories and (hopefully) only a few heckles.

It's been quite a few years for all of us and at Startup Grind Scotland we’ve loved using our platform to bring people together to share ideas, spark conversation, and bring a sense of familiarity since we started way back in 2014. It's our 10th anniversary this year, so plenty of reasons to make it extra special.

Since 2014 we've hosted 100s of events with some of the most entertaining and inspiring speakers/startups from Skyscanner to Current Health, taken 30 startup founders and leaders to Silicon Valley and Helsinki on funded immersive trips, and done what we can to showcase the incredible things going on in the Scottish entrepreneurial ecosystem.

📅 Date: Wed 14th August

🕔 Time: 17:30 - 20:00

📍 Location: CodeBase Edinburgh

This is a rare opportunity to join a startup 'event' that's super relaxed, fun and relatable. Join us as we hear from founders, software engineers and more!

🗣️ Our Comedy Speakers

Karis Gill is the Co-Founder of Social Stories Club, creating Sustainable Gift Hampers for corporates and is also a storytelling expert. She believes in the power of stories to change the world. She now travels the UK sharing everything she knows about marketing, sales, pitching, and storytelling in the form of exciting and interactive workshops for entrepreneurs and teams.

Rishabh Kalyani is a software engineer at one of the world's largest banks and spent many years honing his craft at a high-growth startup in India. In his free time, he is into standup comedy and content creation, as well as mentoring five members in Toastmasters, assisting them in improving their speech writing and stage presentation skills.

Meet Thor Holt, self-proclaimed presentation messiah (& very naughty boy) who's convinced he can turn mumbling execs into boardroom Beyoncés. When not saving the world one PowerPoint at a time, Thor plays Poundland Jeremy Clarkson on his Shetland island family farm, giving motivational talks to organic magical mushrooms!

Former EIR @ MIT (they let anyone get involved in the olden days) Thor's clients call him their "secret weapon" - probably because he is embarrassing to be seen with. Remember, if Thor can't make you a presentation god, there's always TikTok and Ice Baths...

Mikey Motion, cut his teeth hosting every week in The Vibe Room Comedy Club in Glasgow and has gone on to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe, GICF, Hot Water Comedy Liverpool, regular MC at Breakneck Comedy in Aberdeen, The Stand, Monkey Barrel,  Laugh In The Park Festival, the New comedy capital of the world, Austin Texas USA and of course every single prison in Scotland as part of the Wholesome Prison Blues, Prison Tour.

Mikey is now sober and has been for 3 and a half years. His comedy is packed full of playful and silly punchlines mixed with honest self-deprecating material.

BBC NEW Comedy Awards Shortlist 2023, Sold Out shows at Glasgow International Comedy Festival, Host of The Bloody Roastin' Podcast & Mindfull Eh, Nonsence Podcast and 17m+ Views Online.

Event Highlights:

🤣 Relatable Startup Stories

Hear from our 4x comedians as they share their own trials, tribulations and hilarious startup tales. Let's be honest, building a company is HARD but being able to laugh about the various ups and downs is incredibly therapeutic.

🎤 Quickfire Terrible Ideas

We'll also be hearing from a few in the audience who will be tasked with pitching the worst startup ideas they can think of. Think Dragons Den but exclusively awful products mixed with some good old fashioned improv.
