We have put together a panel of experts as we explore the ins and outs of early-stage startup fundraising, from angel syndicates, crowdfunding and venture capital...we'll cover it all! Our panel includes experienced investors and entrepreneurs who will share their insights on how to successfully navigate the fundraising process.

Can you believe we're almost half way through 2023 already? We'll reflect on what the investment scene has looked like in Scotland so far and discuss what we might expect in the next 6 months!

George Mensah - Principal at Sure Valley Ventures
George joined Sure Valley Ventures in April 2022 as a Principal. He has nearly a decade of experience in the capital markets focusing predominantly on high growth companies. Prior to Sure Valley Ventures, he was an Investment Manager at ACF Investors (an early-stage VC which co-invests alongside domain expert-led syndicates of angel investors) , where he played an active role in investing and portfolio management with early stage companies.

George started his investment career at Shore Capital as an Equity Research Analyst, with a sector focus in Online Retail and eCommerce as well as helping companies IPO. He has also held roles at family office Growth Partner LLP and U.S. based investment firm Aegis Capital Corp.


Aaron Duke - Partnerships Associate at Seedrs

Aaron covers U.K. partnerships for Seedrs and previously cycled for The Great British Cycling Team before settling into the private equity sector. Helena Di Biase -  CoFounder & Managing Partner at Raising Partners

Helena is co-founder and Managing Partner of Raising Partners - the Glasgow-based investment firm guiding startups through each step of their fundraising process, and Raising Partners Angels - an angel syndicate that invests in companies making a positive impact on people, processes and the planet. After experiencing first-hand the dangers of poor advice when raising capital, Helena founded Raising Partners in 2017 to level the investment playing field and demystify the fundraising process. Since inception, the firm has worked with over 175 companies and raised over £60 million in funding.


[Hosts] Emma Loedel

Glasgow Chapter Director has been with Startup Grind since 2019. Emma has a science and engineering background and got her first taste of the start-up environment in Bogota, Colombia whilst working in prosthetics clinics. Since then Emma has built on her international experience and embedded herself in the Glasgow & Scottish entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Her passion for tech and innovation has led to her current role as business development manager at tech start-up Novosound, which works across the industrial, medical and wearable sector. Emma brings a new perspective to the Startup Grind Scotland team and is excited to showcase many vibrant founder stories across the city.
