How Not to Get Hacked with Declan Doyle

  • Abertay cyberQuarter 1-3 Bell Street Dundee, DD1 1LH (map)

What is it?

Join us in the Abertay cyberQuarter or online via Zoom for a hybrid discussion with Declan Doyle of the Cyber and Fraud Centre about the importance of cybersecurity for startups and how to make it a primary concern from the very beginning of your business.

Declan will cover the basic steps you can take to making your startup cybersecure, how to build on this security as you grow, and the different threats faced by startups. We'll then be taking questions from both the in-person and online audiences about all things cybersecurity.

Declan Doyle is Head of Professional Services at the Cyber and Fraud Centre, a not-for-profit that exists to ensure Scottish organisations are as resilient as they can be against cyber and fraud related crime. Responsible for directing a wide range of cyber services and support, whilst also managing their cohort of Ethical Hackers, Declan leads on all things cyber. His focus is on promoting robust cyber security measures and fostering a positive cyber security culture across organisations.

Beginning as an Ethical Hacking student, Declan has ascended the ranks to manage a diverse array of cyber services, catering to businesses of all sizes and sectors. Alongside his role, Declan's commitment to the future of the field is demonstrated by his active mentoring of Scotland's emerging cyber security professionals, underscoring his passion and dedication to fostering STEM skills and bolstering national digital resilience. Declan also has a keen interest in AI and is at the forefront of ensuring these innovative tools are harnessed both sensibly and securely.

What can I expect?

We'll be running this discussion as a hybrid event, meaning you can attend either in-person at the Abertay cyberQuarter or join us online via Zoom. If you've registered for an online ticket or can't make it along in-person on the day, you can join us on Zoom by clicking 'Access Link' under Location above. We will also include a link to the Zoom livestream in an email before the event.

Our Head of Regional Engagement, Lara Findlay will introduce the event and our guest speaker, Declan Doyle. Declan will then give a presentation on the cybersecurity risks to startups and the steps you can take to be secure from the very beginning. We'll then have dedicated time for answering any questions from our in-person and online audiences.

When and where is it taking place?

This event will be taking place from 18:00 till 20:00 on Thursday 21st of November in the Abertay cyberQuarter, located 1-3 Bell Street, Dundee, DD1 1LH, and online via Zoom.

What is a tech startup founder?

A tech startup founder is someone who has the ambition to create a product or offering with technology at it's core, whether you are pre-startup or have been established for years. All we ask is that you are actively working on a tech product concept and could benefit from spending an evening with other like-minded founders in the area.

Registration

We ask everyone to sign up individually, so we can have an estimate of how many people want to attend and so we know of any accessibility requirements in advance. Please cancel your ticket if you are no longer able to attend.

We will also check-in each person on Eventbrite as they join the event so make sure you've signed up to the event in order to attend!

Tickets are very limited so be sure to register!
