  • DC Thomson 2 Albert Square Dundee, Scotland, DD1 1DD United Kingdom (map)

What is it?

Join us in the DC Thomson building for a chance to learn about the different funding options available for startups and to network with other founders in the Dundee & Tayside region.

Our Head of Regional Engagement Lara Findlay will be hosting a fireside chat session with Myles Bax, Relationship Manager for Scottish Edge; Alastair Moore, Senior Investment Manager at Par Equity; and Shona Marsh, VP of Startup Programmes at CodeBase. Together they'll be discussing the challenges of finding funding and investment

What can I expect?

We'll be hosting a fireside chat style event where Lara Findlay will ask our speakers about the challenges and opportunities of finding funding and the audience will have time to pose questions directly and start a wider conversation.

We'll provide time at the beginning and end of the event for networking with local founders, our guest speakers and CodeBase staff in attendance. Tea, coffee and snacks will also be available throughout.

Lara Findlay is the Head of Regional Engagement for CodeBase Dundee & Tayside and is your first point of contact for the region. She's here to help you find the right support through joining the Techscaler community and becoming a Techscaler member, and grow regional participation in the Techscaler programme.

She spent 8 years building startups and growing the business of one of the Silicon Valley unicorns, Airbnb. This journey included the acquisition of the company she joined at Day 0, Accomable, and some teaching and mentoring through University entrepreneurship programmes at Falmouth and Oxford Universities. Prior to this, she built tourist destination brands and tourism businesses. She is currently supporting individuals and startups to explore the world of tech innovation and successful startup building through education, accelerators and peer learning at CodeBase as VP of Startup Programmes.

As Relationship Manager, Myles helps manage the Scottish EDGE loan book, looking after a portfolio of companies and providing coaching, mentorship and network whenever possible. Prior to Scottish EDGE, Myles worked on the commercial side of early-stage companies. He joined Robotical as the first full-time employee, enabling the growth of that team and helping the founder sell over 8000 robots during his time with the business. In addition, Myles was Commercial Lead at Octopus Ventures-backed Touchlab Ltd and Partner Sales Manager at Par Equity-backed SICCAR. He is a mentor for Techscaler and Eagle Lab companies.

What is a tech startup founder?

A tech startup founder is someone who has the ambition to create a product or offering with technology at it's core, whether you are pre-startup or have been established for years. All we ask is that you are actively working on a tech product concept and could benefit from spending an evening with other like-minded founders in the area.

Registration

We ask everyone to sign up individually, so we can have an estimate of how many people want to attend and so we know of any accessibility requirements in advance. Please cancel your ticket if you are no longer able to attend.

We will also check-in each person on Eventbrite as they join the event so make sure you've signed up to the event in order to attend!

Tickets are very limited so be sure to register!
