Our VP of Programmes, Shona Marsh, will be sitting down with Liza Sutherland, former Head of Ecosystem at Techstart Ventures LLP, to talk about what it takes to raise a series A round in Scotland.

Who will be speaking?
Shona Marsh
Shona is an energetic startup builder, specialising in direct-to-market digital platform launches. She spent 8 years building startups and growing the business of one of the Silicon Valley unicorns, Airbnb. This journey included the acquisition of the company she joined at Day 0, Accomable, and some teaching and mentoring through University entrepreneurship programmes at Falmouth and Oxford Universities. Prior to this, she built tourist destination brands and tourism businesses.
She is currently supporting individuals and startups to explore the world of tech innovation and successful startup building through education, accelerators and peer learning at CodeBase as VP of Startup Programmes.
Liza Sutherland
Liza is an entrepreneur, start-up advisor and investor with 20 years’ experience in early-stage fundraising from both sides of the table. She’s advised over 200 tech start-ups and helped raise more than £50m in early stage investments. Liza’s current focus is on helping companies raise their Series A. Liza was most recently Head of Ecosystem at Techstart Ventures, a seed stage venture capital investor. She previously founded a £1M-invested venture focused on revolutionizing audience engagement at live events, was EIR at Wayra’s AI & Blockchain Accelerator, and spent over 10 years advising high growth tech start-ups focused on software, AI/ML, synth bio, and regenerative medicine while personally investing in a few.
Originally from NYC, Liza has an MBA and BA in Psychology. Her entrepreneurial journey began immediately after university, where she spent her formative years co-founding and leading a music company while simultaneously DJing internationally.
Where will the event be taking place?
The Fireside chat will take place at Barclays Eagle Labs, Glasgow at 6pm on Wednesday 22 May. Join us for welcome drinks from 6pm, the discussion will start at 6.30pm. We aim to finish at 8pm.

We ask everyone to sign up individually, so we can have an estimate of how many people want to attend. We will also check-in each person on Eventbrite as they join the event so make sure you've signed up to the event in order to attend!
