About the event

What is it?

We are all unique and different. Our customers are, too. Users of our products and services require them to be accessible and inclusive. This workshop will explore the foundations of accessible web design for If you are involved in product or service design at any stage, then you are a designer who can make someone's life better or miserable. You might work as a marketing person, a developer, a UX specialist, or a content writer; what you do daily contributes to the broader user experience.

What can I expect?

We will explore:

  • Why is web accessibility important, and how does it work in connection with UX and inclusive design?

  • How can our privilege affect our work and the experience of end-users?

  • What are simple things that you can do to improve your practice and make sure that what you produce works for multiple underprivileged groups?

  • What should we remember when creating web forms, marketing campaigns, multimedia content and documents?

  • What are standards related to accessibility, and how do they work?

We will look at the content, interface and technical aspects of design.

You don't have to be a web developer to benefit from this workshop

Web accessibility is something that we can all work on. During the workshop the participants will explore practical techniques and examples to improve their skill set instantly. Facilitators will explain everything from the ground up, so participants don't have to possess much technical knowledge.

Participants will work individually and in groups. There's no need for participants to bring anything but a notepad and a pen.

Where and when is this taking place?

This workshop will take place from 9am - 1pm on Tuesday 31st October at CodeBase Edinburgh, 37a Castle Terrace, EH1 2EL. We'll be in the Events Space just to the right when you enter the building. There are no steps between the street and the venue and blue badge holders can park in the surrounding streets.

Who will be there?
