Machines With Vision - Business Development Manager

Business Development Manager [REF0023]

Starting Q2 2024

Background

Machines With Vision (MWV) is a fast growing technology company that has developed pioneering solutions to the challenge of location and positioning in rail, transforming how infrastructure owners and engineers perform maintenance. We enable track workers to get to defects quickly, safely and with certainty. Unlike the industry incumbents, our solution works with better than 1m accuracy, all of the time, everywhere on the railway network, in near real-time.

Our award-winning solutions have been deployed on the national railways in the UK, Germany and Switzerland.

We were founded in 2016 and are based in Edinburgh, UK.

The role

As Business Development Manager you will be responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, building relationships with existing and potential customers and partners, and supporting the management team to negotiate and close deals. You will also be responsible for managing existing relationships and identifying new opportunities within existing accounts.

There are many railway industry events happening in the UK and across the world and we need to increase our presence at these to discover new customers. Every event we miss is a lost opportunity. We are looking for someone smart and energetic to go to industry events, find and speak to the relevant people, identify opportunities and identify which opportunities are worth pursuing. You’ll need to develop a good understanding of our products and the benefits that these offer our customers and to build relationships with the people and organizations we can help.

Railways are big organisations with national railways such as Network Rail and Deutsche Bahn employing tens of thousands of staff. Many of these staff are potential users and beneficiaries of our products but they may not be aware of us. We are looking for someone to get in front of more people within the railways we are already working with, raise awareness and identify opportunities.

The role will involve travel to customer premises potentially anywhere in the world but largely in the UK initially as well as traveling to international trade events. While this will vary from month to month, we would anticipate that this role will involve travel to an international event or potential overseas customer every 2 months and meeting a UK customer or attending a UK industry event every 1 to 2 weeks.

Although our company is headquartered in Edinburgh the nature of this role means it’s suitable for candidates based anywhere in the UK. Being conveniently located within easy reach of the heart of the UK railway in the East Midlands is an advantage but not necessary. You would be expected to visit the Edinburgh office every 2 to 3 months.

You will initially be reporting directly to the CEO and later to the company's CCO as the company grows.
